Description
Let’s face it, treating people differently in employment, based on things like age, can be unlawful. Bias based on age is a reality – and can be subtle or blatant. Ageism in the workplace has to do with people being discounted because of their age. This happens when someone is seen as too young or too old to tackle a specific task or requirement.
How we treat and behave with one another is important to the work we do together. When we make relationships a priority, we are better able to interrupt bias and create an equitable and inclusive workplace for all.
We need to make time to discuss a situation. We have to explore differences, so we understand the situation before we act. We need to encourage and maintain respect. And we have to take personal responsibility to find common ground - so we can address the situation or solve the problem and move forward, together.
